The Quartermaster is a 5-finger Monkey's Fist knot with an eye-spliced hand loop, plus a sewn leather grip... which is then whipped and finished with 2 Turk's Head knots. It measures approximately 19" end to end, and we build it using the same vintage New England rope that we use on our seabag lanyards.
What's it for?
In the old days, the Quartermaster would have been used to maintain discipline aboard the ship, keeping unruly crewmembers in line, as well as providing concealment for small valuables buried inside the Monkey's Fist.
Today it's just for fun! Display it at the home or office, or attach it to your ditty bag for a bit of extra swagger. And if the need for self-defense should arise...
