Cuapetes sp. - The Long Arm Shrimp is a small and elegant shrimp species found throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific, including Palau. Shrimp in this genus are often seen living in close association with corals, anemones, or crinoids, where their transparent bodies and subtle striping help them blend perfectly into their surroundings. This camouflage makes them almost invisible to predators and an incredible example of reef adaptation.
In the wild, Cuapetes act as gentle scavengers, feeding on small bits of detritus, leftover food, and organic material around their hosts. They don't require a host for survival in aquariums and will eat just about any aquarium foods. They are peaceful and reef safe, making them great additions to nano and pico aquariums with other tiny, non-aggressive tank mates like nano gobies and shrimp like Periclimenes and Urocaridella spp.
These shrimp prefer an environment with plenty of structure, such as branching coral, sponge, or macroalgae, where they can perch and explore. Do not house them with fish that are large enough to eat them.
